Robert Tomić

Robert graduated Architecture at the Vienna University of Technology and at Tongji University in Shanghai. While studying, he gained working experiences in Art, Architecture and Urbanism in China at All-design, under the architect William Alsop. Robert expanded his knowledge of integrated design in Europe through BIM as an Architectural Designer at ATP architects engineers in Vienna. From 2017 to 2019, Robert taught urban design together with Professor Christoph Luchsinger at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the Vienna University of Technology. In the year 2019, together with his wife Peiying Han, he founded the TOMIC HAN architectural studio. Robert is state authorised and licensed architect.

professionally active

Robert’s professional activities so far have been shaped by very different architectural philosophies and approaches. After gaining experience as an architect in Asia (with Professor William Alsop in Chongqing, China) and later as an architect in Europe (at ATP architects engineers in Vienna), as well as a lecturer (at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape at the Vienna University of Technology) in the field of planning, project management and teaching, Robert is now active, together with his wife and business partner, Peiying Han, in their studio TOMIĆ HAN. Since 2019 Robert and Peiying are offering high level services in urban design, architecture, landscape, interior design, research and consulting.

Prior to the establishment of TOMIĆ HAN studio, Robert enriched his experience at the international level:

  • from 2017 to 2019, active as team architect at ATP architects engineers in Vienna, with focus on green buildings, office buildings, residential buildings, hotels;
  • from 2016 to 2017, active as freelance architect at Prostor d.o.o. in Ljubuški, with focus on residential buildings;
  • in 2016, active as architect (internship) at all Design in Chongqing with focus on urban design;
  • in 2015, active as architect (internship) at JADRIC ARCHITEKTUR ZT-GmbH in Vienna.

Teaching

2017 – 2019
lecturer at Vienna University of Technology

From 2017 to 2019, Robert worked as a lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology in the urban planning research area. In addition to his own four design course series (Rijeka Open City), as a doctoral candidate, he was a teaching assistant at two other design courses with Professor Christoph Luchsinger. Intensive collaboration with Professor Luchsinger on the Rijeka Open City project allowed him to gain a wide range of academic experiences. So far Robert has prepared and carried out five excursions and five design classes. At the Vienna University of Technology, he actively conducted diploma examinations of his students in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Robert prepared one-day lectures in Zagreb (at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb) and Rijeka (at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Rijeka) and held them together with Professor Luchsinger.

Robert graduated Architecture at the Vienna University of Technology and at Tongji University in Shanghai. Motivated to develop his academic career further, he is active at the Vienna University of Technology as a doctoral candidate. 

He is currently writing a doctoral thesis on the topic of “Temporary mobile housing units – a method for transforming post-industrial spaces” His main supervisor is Professor Dr. Tongyu Sun from Tongji University and his co-supervisor is Professor Dr. Mladen Jadric.

He is writing his thesis at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape.
